Abstract:
The current research aims at knowing:
1. Knowing the influence of PQ4R strategy on achievement in the social material to the students of the second intermediate school.
2. Knowing the influence of PQ4R strategy on retaining in the social material to the students of the second intermediate school.
3. The amount of that PQ4R strategy on achievement to the students of the second intermediate school in the social material.
To achieve the two aims of the research, the researcher formulated the following two nil hypotheses:
1.There is no statistical sense to the level (0.05) between the average of the experimental group students’ marks who are going to be taught in accord with PQ4R strategy and the average of the controlled group students’ marks who are going to be taught in the traditional method in achieving the social material.
2. There is no statistical sense to the level (0.05) between the average of the experimental group students’ marks who are going to be taught in accord with PQ4R strategy and the average of the controlled group students’ marks who are going to be taught in the traditional method in retaining the social material.
The experimental design of the partial control (experimental group and controlled group) of the posterior test in order to prove the validity of the two hypotheses for both the attainment test and retaining. The researcher chose a random sample for the study represented by students of Zehrat Al Meda’in intermediate school for boys/ the second year in Al Hur district center / Kerbala province which belongs to the general educational Kerbala directorate to apply the experiment during the academic year 2021- 2022.
The sample size was 65 students distributed into 31 students representing the experimental group who studied by the use of PQ4R strategy and 34 students representing the controlled group who studied by the traditional way. The researcher limited the scientific material that is going to be taught to students of the two research groups which is composed of the last chapters ( the fourth, the fifth, the sixth) from the social book that is devoted to be studied from the Iraqi ministry of Education for the academic year 2021- 2022.
The groups were equalized in variables ( the temporal age counted by months, marks of the social material in the midyear, testing intelligence level ( Ahmed Zaki test), and the academic level of fathers and mothers.
The researcher prepared the behavioral aims about 110 that covered the academic material taking opinions of a group of experts and jury after their observation to all the behavioral aims. Later, the researcher prepared the academic plan to the two research groups. He also displayed a sample on a group of experts and jury to take their suggestions and notes. After that, the researcher prepared the two research devices represented by the attainment test that is composed of 30 items: 22 objective items by choosing from multiple and 8 essay items by short answers where its truth, stability, psychometric properties were counted.
All data were collected and treated statistically relying on the internal uniformity method through Cronbach’ Alpha which is the most suitable for the objective and essay tests, taking out the difficulty and simplicity coefficient, the item recognizable power, and activity of the mistaken alternatives to the objective items.
In the light of the results that were statistically tackled, the results showed presence of influence of PQ4R strategy in achievement and retaining in the social material of second intermediate class students to the benefit of the experimental group on the account of the controlled group that was affected by the traditional way.
To complete the research, the researcher presented a number of conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions that can be useful.
